Tetiana Bashkatova, Director of the Pharmacovigilance Department of the Center, took part as a speaker in the Summer School of Vaccination 2025. The focus of the presentation was the importance of safety monitoring of immunobiological medicinal products and the responsibility of family doctors and pediatricians involved in vaccination processes for reporting possible adverse events following immunization (AEFI).
According to T. Bashkatova, all medical/pharmaceutical workers, regardless of the form of ownership of the facility, are obliged to submit reports of AEFI cases to the Center in a timely manner. The option of submitting an electronic report has been implemented by entering the information in the Automated Pharmacovigilance Information System (AISF) https://aisf.dec.gov.ua/Account/LogOn
“The data obtained enable the Center to track signals of new or rare adverse reactions, recommend amendments to package inserts, and influence regulatory actions by the state on banning circulation or even withdrawing a product from the market, which makes it possible to guarantee the safety of vaccines in Ukraine,” she emphasized.
The specialist presented to doctors in detail a step-by-step algorithm for completing report cards. She separately addressed the concept of AEFI (adverse events following immunization) and their classification, and also demonstrated the results of AEFI surveillance. She urged medical professionals to regularly re-read the instructions even for vaccines that have long been familiar, and also to follow safety updates on the official website of the Center https://www.dec.gov.ua/doctors/2025/?role=doctors
"Timely reporting by healthcare workers of cases of AEFI, strict adherence to the instructions for medical use, and continuous updating of knowledge on vaccine safety are a contribution to the safety of the entire healthcare system. This makes it possible to respond to risks in a timely manner, protect patients, and is the key to public trust in vaccination," T. Bashkatova summed up.
Taking the opportunity, she thanked the organizers of the event – the Academy of Family Medicine, the Ukrainian Academy of Pediatric Specialties, the WHO Office in Ukraine – for an important platform for professional dialogue.
