The standard of medical care "Diagnosis and Treatment of Parkinson's Disease" has been added to the Register of Medical Technological Documents. The document defines modern approaches to the organization of medical care, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients with this disease.
Parkinson's disease is a chronic progressive neurodegenerative disease manifested not only by motor symptoms (tremor, slowness of movement, muscle rigidity), but also by a wide range of non-motor disorders that significantly affect patients' quality of life.
The standard provides for a multidisciplinary approach to the management of patients with the involvement of physicians of various specialties, with the neurologist playing a key role in establishing the diagnosis and treatment.
The main emphasis is placed on early diagnosis and continuous follow-up. The diagnosis is established according to clinical criteria, taking into account both motor and non-motor manifestations, as well as with the use of modern examination methods. Regular assessment of the patient's condition, determination of the stage of the disease and the formation of an individual medical care plan are provided for.
Treatment is based on the principles of evidence-based medicine and includes the use of dopaminergic therapy. In complex cases, the possibility of neurosurgical treatment – deep brain stimulation – is provided for.
Particular attention is paid to the management of non-motor symptoms, such as: sleep disorders, cognitive and mental disorders, autonomic disorders, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of emergency conditions that may threaten the patient's life.
Why this is important for patients
- early detection of the disease;
- timely prescription of effective treatment;
- better control of symptoms;
- significant improvement in quality of life and reduction of the risk of complications.
The medical technological document is intended for general practitioners – family doctors, neurologists, psychiatrists, neurosurgeons, physical and rehabilitation medicine doctors and other specialists involved in the provision of medical care.
Methodological and informational support during the development of the standard was provided by specialists of the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
