Based on the results of the state health technology assessment, the Center recommended considering the possibility of including in the National List of Essential Medicines and in state procurement, including through managed access agreements, a medicinal product containing pertuzumab + trastuzumab for use in combination with docetaxel.

Who is this treatment important for?

For adult patients with HER2-positive metastatic or locally recurrent unresectable breast cancer who have not received anti-HER2 therapy or chemotherapy at the metastatic stage.

What is the advantage of the therapy?

Pertuzumab and trastuzumab are monoclonal antibodies that act on different regions of the HER2 receptor and have a complementary action. This makes it possible to block the signals that stimulate tumor cell growth. The study results demonstrate a significant clinical benefit of the pertuzumab + trastuzumab + docetaxel combination and improved survival:

  • Median progression-free survival: 18,5 months vs. 12,4 months.
  • Median overall survival: 57,1 months vs. 40,8 months

For your information, about 12 000 new cases of breast cancer are detected in Ukraine every year. According to the National Cancer Registry of Ukraine, in 2023, 11% of women presented already with stage IV, when complete cure of the disease is impossible and the treatment process is long and expensive.
