Vaccine safety is a key factor in trust in immunization and one of the foundations of an effective public health system.

Vaccination is an important public health tool that helps save lives every day. It contributes to reducing the incidence of infectious diseases and forms long-term protection for the population.

Within World Immunization Week, special attention is paid not only to the importance of vaccinations but also to vaccine safety as an integral component of trust in vaccination.

At the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, vaccine safety is under constant control.

Vaccines used in Ukraine meet the requirements of quality, efficacy and safety

Every vaccine undergoes a thorough expert evaluation for compliance with quality, efficacy and safety standards even before it reaches the patient. The Center's specialists analyze the full package of data – from the results of preclinical and clinical trials to manufacturing quality indicators. Not only the efficacy of the vaccine is assessed, but also the benefit-risk ratio and compliance with international standards.

Control over vaccine safety in Ukraine is continuous

The pharmacovigilance system of the State Expert Center allows tracking any adverse reactions associated with the use of a vaccine and responding to them promptly. By submitting reports on adverse reactions, healthcare/pharmaceutical professionals and patients help the state monitor vaccine safety. Such a report can be submitted promptly and free of charge through the automated pharmacovigilance information system AISF

Safety information updates – the key to safe immunization

By tracking safety signals, the State Expert Center promptly informs manufacturers and healthcare professionals about changes that may affect the safety profile of vaccines and the need to update instructions for medical use. That is why it is important for physicians to review the instructions regularly – even if the vaccine has been used in practice for a long time. The Center systematically conducts outreach with physicians so that immunoprophylaxis remains effective, safe and inspires trust.

Vaccination as the foundation of prevention and protection

Since the beginning of 2026 in Ukraine, the Ministry of Health has updated the National Calendar of Preventive Vaccinations – this further expands the possibilities for protecting the population and strengthens the systematic approach to prevention.

Vaccination is not only about individual protection. It is about herd immunity, the resilience of the healthcare system and saving lives.
