Representatives of the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine took part in the annual conference of the Guidelines International Network (GIN 2026) – the International Network for Clinical Guidelines, which was held on 15–18 September in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
GIN 2026 is one of the leading international events in the field of development and implementation of evidence-based clinical guidelines. This year's conference was dedicated to the theme "Guidelines for All: Bridging Tradition, Technology and High-Value Care" and brought together specialists in the development of clinical recommendations, researchers, healthcare professionals, representatives of healthcare systems and patient communities from various countries.
Participation in GIN 2026 gave the specialists of the State Expert Center the opportunity to familiarize themselves with modern international approaches to the development and updating of clinical guidelines, evidence assessment and the formulation of clinical recommendations, and the adaptation of international recommendations to the needs of national healthcare systems.
During professional discussions and exchange of experience, special attention was paid to the practical application of evidence-based recommendations, the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, patient involvement, working with new evidence data, and the relationship between clinical guidelines and health technology assessment.
For the Center, such international exchange is of practical importance in the work on improving the system of standardization of medical care in Ukraine. The experience gained can be used during the updating of clinical guidelines, standards of medical care and clinical protocols, as well as to ensure that modern evidence-based recommendations find practical application more quickly in the work of healthcare professionals.
The participation of the Center's specialists in GIN 2026 also became a continuation of cooperation between the Center and the WHO in the development of evidence-based approaches to the standardization of medical care. With the technical support of the WHO, medical technological documents have already been prepared and adapted to the Ukrainian context for six priority conditions: low back pain, cystitis, influenza, bronchial asthma in adults, iron deficiency anemia, and depression. Work in this area continues.
The international experience and professional contacts gained during the conference will contribute to the further updating of approaches to the standardization of medical care in Ukraine and to the use of current evidence-based data in the preparation of documents that guide healthcare professionals in clinical practice.
The State Expert Center expresses its gratitude to the WHO Country Office in Ukraine for supporting the participation of the Center's representatives in GIN 2026 and for fully covering the costs related to the business trip.
