The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has approved the Unified Clinical Protocol of Primary and Specialized Medical Care "Influenza" (order No. 870 dated 25.06.2026). Methodological and informational support for the development of the document was provided by specialists of the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The updated protocol reflects modern evidence-based approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of influenza. The document will become a practical guide for primary and specialized medical care physicians and will help apply unified approaches in the management of patients.
Influenza remains one of the most common infectious diseases in the world and causes seasonal epidemics every year. Children, older people, pregnant women and patients with concomitant diseases are especially vulnerable. Therefore, timely prevention, early detection of risks and correctly chosen treatment tactics are important for preventing complications.
The protocol defines:
- Clear algorithms for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with influenza. It also contains indications for hospitalization and routing depending on the severity of the disease.
- Comprehensive approach to prevention and treatment. The protocol emphasizes that annual influenza vaccination remains the most effective method of preventing the disease and its severe consequences. It also contains recommendations on the use of antiviral therapy and chemoprophylaxis.
- Organization of medical care – defines approaches to providing medical care at different levels, criteria for hospitalization and routing of patients depending on the severity of the disease course.
Particular attention is paid to early administration of antiviral medicinal products to patients from risk groups, which is important for reducing the likelihood of a severe course of the disease and the development of complications.
The application of the protocol will contribute to consistency of clinical decisions, timely determination of the necessary scope of medical care and the use of modern evidence-based approaches to the management of patients with influenza.
