In accordance with order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 315 dated 13 March 2026, the following primary and specialized medical care protocols have been entered into the Register of Medical Technological Documents:
- "Bleeding from esophageal and gastric varices",
- "Portal vein thrombosis",
- "Hepatic encephalopathy".
These documents have been developed for the first time on the basis of the clinical guideline "Liver Cirrhosis", taking into account current international recommendations, in particular the guidelines of the European Association for the Study of the Liver 2018–2022. They are based on the principles of evidence-based medicine and reflect current approaches to the management and treatment of patients with liver cirrhosis.
Liver cirrhosis is a severe disease with a high risk of developing dangerous complications. The introduction of the new protocols is aimed at forming a unified, comprehensive and effective system of providing medical care to such patients. The documents provide for the elimination of risk factors, prevention of complications, their early detection, timely diagnosis and proper treatment, which ultimately will improve survival and quality of life.
The new protocols ensure standardization of medical care, reduce variability in clinical practice, and contribute to more effective use of modern medical knowledge in a doctor's daily work. For patients, this means the possibility of early detection of complications, timely treatment, and improved prognosis.
The medical technological documents are intended for a wide range of professionals: heads of healthcare institutions, general practitioners – family doctors, internists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, as well as nursing staff and other healthcare professionals involved in the provision of primary and specialized care.
The implementation of clear, structured, and scientifically substantiated protocols is another significant step in improving the quality of patient treatment in Ukraine.
