The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has approved a new Unified Clinical Protocol of Primary and Specialized Medical Care "Dermatofibrosarcoma Protuberans" (order No. 828 dated 17.06.2026). Methodological and informational support for the development of the document was provided by specialists of the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a rare, locally aggressive soft tissue tumor of the skin. It is characterized by slow growth, a low rate of metastasis, but a high frequency of local recurrences and the ability to grow into the subcutaneous tissue, muscles, fascia and even bones.
This type of skin cancer has no proven methods of prevention, as, for example, in melanoma, and therefore the key task of physicians is early detection, prompt referral of patients to specialized healthcare facilities and selection of optimal antitumor treatment.
Main advantages and objectives of the protocol
- Unified standards and evidence base: the document was developed on the basis of an adapted clinical guideline based on the principles of evidence-based medicine and taking into account current international NCCN recommendations.
- Clear algorithm for cancer care: the protocol contains step-by-step instructions for timely diagnosis, treatment (surgical, systemic, radiation therapy), palliative care and further follow-up observation.
- Optimization of the patient's pathway: the document will help in creating clinical pathways for patients at the level of healthcare facilities.
- Multidisciplinary approach: the efforts of oncologists, oncologic surgeons, dermatologists, pathologists, radiologists, family doctors, etc. are involved in providing medical care – this guarantees a comprehensive view of patient management at all stages.
Implementation of the protocol in real clinical practice will ensure patients' access to quality medical care, achieve long-term remission, reduce the risk of recurrence and significantly improve their quality of life.
