It addressed overcoming crises and ensuring the effectiveness of research in oncology, taking into account the challenges associated with military aggression in Ukraine. Issues raised included the protection of research participants, the right to participate in clinical trials, and access to investigational medicinal products.

The thematic webinar brought together about 40 representatives of ethics committees of various levels and of organizations supporting good clinical practice (GCP) from European countries, the USA, and Japan. From Ukraine – representatives of the State Expert Center, the National Cancer Institute, the Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy (Departments of Oncology and Medical Radiology), the National University of Pharmacy (Kharkiv), and the research center “ARENSIA Exploratory Medicine”.

“Despite martial law in Ukraine, the Center continues its work on developing the field of clinical trials,” emphasized Serhii Rasputniak, Head of the Department for Audit of Laboratory and Clinical Practices (GLP, GCP) of the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, in his speech. “Compliance with GCP requirements and with international and national legislation,” according to him, “is the basis for conducting clinical trials in both peacetime and wartime. The priority for continuing trials has been and remains ensuring the rights and safety of trial subjects. The rights, safety, and well-being of patients are paramount and must prevail over the interests of science and society.”

For your information, since the beginning of the full-scale military aggression, the Center has received notifications about the transfer of 428 trial subjects to other research centers, 272 of them abroad. Cancer patients accounted for about 40% of them.
