For the first time in Ukraine, a standard of treatment has been approved for patients with mental and behavioral disorders due to the use of psychoactive substances and stimulants other than opioids (MoH order No. 84 of 13.01.2024) http://surl.li/wobjns
The Standard is based on the recommendations of the clinical guideline of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (ASAM/AAAP), which was recommended and adapted to the healthcare system of Ukraine with the methodological support of standardization specialists of the State Expert Center of the MoH http://surl.li/ohwfqy
The standard defines a detailed algorithm for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of adult patients with disorders resulting from the use of psychoactive substances (PAS) and non-opioid psychoactive substances (non-PAS): cannabinoids, amphetamine-type stimulants, ecstasy, cocaine, hallucinogens, and others.
Their use is known to carry significant public health risks. Besides dependence syndrome and an increased risk of death from overdose, there is a high likelihood of infection with HIV, viral hepatitis B and C, sexually transmitted diseases, cardiovascular diseases, kidney problems, increased risk of suicide and other mental disorders.
The standard will become an important guide for doctors of various specialties and will raise awareness of the main initial clinical manifestations of the use of PAS and new PAS, acute intoxication, and dependence syndrome. It will also provide coordination at the stages of early detection, reduction of the frequency of use, provision of specialized medical care to patients, and the application of psychosocial intervention methods.
The standard and clinical guideline have been entered into the Register of Medical Technological Documents.
