The analysis of international sources and the preparation of draft documents within the work of the multidisciplinary working group at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine were carried out by specialists of the Department of Standardization of Medical Care of the Center.
The documents are based on advanced scientific research in clinical pediatric dietetics and assessment of the nutritional status of children with oncological diseases.
Nutritional support at the stage of overcoming the disease is extremely important. Under the influence of cancer, patients may develop anorexia, taste changes, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, chronic fatigue, anemia, depression, and weight loss. A comprehensive approach will help prepare young patients for treatment and tolerate side effects during and after therapy as easily as possible.
Nutritional correction at the stage of surgical interventions reduces the frequency and severity of postoperative complications, makes it possible to complete the course of treatment, shortens hospital stay, and improves quality of life.
The standard and clinical guideline are aimed at addressing eating disorders (malnutrition) in cancer patients and contain important indicators regarding methods of assessing the risk of malnutrition, diagnosing nutritional deficiency, and managing malnutrition depending on its severity, the ability to consume food, the need to administer nutrients by alternative routes, concomitant pathological conditions, and a number of other factors.
The recommendations are intended for use in the clinical practice of pediatric oncologists, oncological surgeons, pediatric anesthesiologists, hematologists, radiologists, radiation therapy physicians, gastroenterologists, dietitians, etc.
In accordance with MoH order No. 176 of 30.01.2025, the Standard of Medical Care “Nutritional support in pediatric oncological diseases” has been entered into the Register of Medical Technological Documents.
